Really useful service that can provide solace

The unusual problem with reviewing a service like YODO, You Only Die Once, is that, if it ever works exactly as intended, the customer is unlikely to be available to update Trustpilot afterwards. So I can only review the living-user side of the experience, which thankfully is the part I am currently qualified to comment on. I am using the service and have found it very well designed, thoughtful and easy to understand. The concept is simple but genuinely important: you can set up check-ins, nominate trusted people to be alerted if something seems wrong, and prepare messages or instructions to be released to the right people if the worst happens. It is not a replacement for a will, lawyer, emergency service or proper estate planning, but it is a very useful and human complement to all of that. The team behind it is professional, responsive and helpful, and the service feels like it has been built with real care rather than as a gimmick around a sensitive subject. One aspect I think is underappreciated is the strange but real comfort it can give while you are still very much alive. There are things many of us want to say but do not say, to a parent, a sibling, a child, a friend, someone estranged, someone we love, or someone with whom life has become complicated. Sometimes saying it now may feel impossible, premature, disruptive or simply too difficult. Knowing that there is at least a structured way for that message to reach them one day gives a quiet form of solace. In that sense, YODO is not only about death. It is also about reducing the living person's anxiety that something important may remain forever unsaid. For roughly the cost of a single therapy session, you can cover a year or two of a service that may give you something quite powerful in return: a sense of internal resolution, emotional tidiness and quiet reassurance. In some cases, the solace of knowing that the right words will eventually reach the right person may be worth far more than one more hour spent talking about why they remain unsaid. A clever, humane and very worthwhile service. Five stars, with the sincere hope that I will not be able to test the final feature personally for a very long time.
