Export Your Data
Your messages and contacts belong to you. Here is how to request a copy, what you will receive, and how long it takes.
What you can export
Account Holders can request a full export of the personal data we hold in connection with their account. This includes:
- Your sealed Messages (text, voice, video, and attachments)
- Your contact lists (Delegates, Recipients, and Special Delegates where applicable)
- Account settings and Check-in preferences
- Billing and subscription history
- Activity logs related to your account
Note: Recipients who have received released Messages can download their own copies directly from the secure delivery link. We recommend saving attachments locally, as in-app access is time-limited to 12 months from release.
How to request an export
You can request your data at any time. There is no charge for the first request within a 12-month period.
Email request
Send a request to info@yodo.ltd from the email address registered to your account. We will verify your identity before processing.
Account settings
If the export option is available in your account dashboard, you can initiate a download directly from the Privacy or Data settings section.
Formats and delivery
We provide exports in commonly used, machine-readable formats so you can move or archive your data easily:
- Message text and metadata: JSON or CSV
- Attachments: original file formats (ZIP archive)
- Contact lists: CSV
- Activity and billing records: CSV or PDF summary
The export is delivered as a secure download link sent to your registered email address. The link remains active for 14 days. For large accounts, we may split the archive into multiple parts.
Timelines
Standard request
We aim to fulfil standard export requests within 30 calendar days of verifying your identity. Most requests are completed sooner.
Complex or large requests
If your account contains a very large volume of messages or attachments, or if the request requires additional verification, we may need up to 60 calendar days. We will tell you promptly if an extension is needed and explain why.
Wind-down period
If Y.O.D.O. ever had to wind down, Account Holders would receive at least 60 days' notice and would be able to export their data during that window.
Your right to data portability
Under Article 20 UK GDPR, you have the right to receive the personal data you provided to us in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format. You also have the right to request that we transmit that data directly to another controller, where technically feasible.
This right applies to personal data processed on the basis of your consent or for the performance of a contract. It does not apply to data we process for other lawful bases, such as legal obligations or vital interests.
Important: The right to portability covers your personal data (account details, contacts, message metadata). It does not extend to the encrypted content of sealed Messages addressed to Recipients, because those Messages are held under the lawful basis of the Account Holder's instructions and the Recipient's legitimate expectations, not solely on the basis of your individual contract.
What we cannot export
There are some things we cannot include in an export, for legal or technical reasons:
- Data that belongs to another person (for example, a Recipient's personal information) without their consent
- Information that is necessary for ongoing legal or regulatory obligations
- System logs that contain aggregated or anonymised data
- Data that has already been securely deleted under our retention schedule
How we keep exports secure
We take reasonable steps to protect your data while it is being prepared and delivered:
- Exports are generated on demand, not stored permanently
- Download links are time-limited and sent only to your registered email address
- Archive files are encrypted at rest during the delivery window
- We verify your identity before releasing any export
